– he needs no explanation or encouragement to explore and make choices from the
menu. He is familiar with touch screens and instantly feels ready to explore and
make purchases.
Room service has never been so easy to arrange. He decides to have a club sandwich
sent up as he looks at the wealth of information available. The menu suggests a
local speciality beer as an accompaniment. He appreciates this extra service, and
places his order with a touch of the screen.
The order is received at the kitchen, where it is displayed on a screen. It is also
automatically recorded for addition to his bill.
He orders his favourite breakfast for the next day, books a taxi for his conference
in the morning. An alarm call is a must – he arranges one.
All his choices are logged and processed automatically. His breakfast preference
is noted, and will be offered the next time he checks in. He browses the local information,
notes a speciality restaurant that would be ideal for entertaining a particular
business contact, and books a table for lunch tomorrow.
He checks the airport and weather.
He sees from the touch screen a confirmation that his sandwich is already on its
way, and he has not even opened his case.
